When the temperature drops in winter, how should valves be protected against freezing and maintained?

After the onset of winter, the temperature drops rapidly, and valves often freeze. If not dealt with promptly, the pipelines will easily break down. In some critical situations, accidents may even occur. Therefore, the anti-freezing treatment of valves is extremely important. 


Before the temperature drops, a comprehensive insulation operation should be carried out on the valve equipment to make "winter preparations". 
Prepare the necessary tools: insulation foam, iron wire, pliers, utility knife. Also, carry an effective gas alarm in the gas area. 
According to the size of the valve, cut the appropriate insulation cotton using a utility knife. Then, use a pair of pliers to cut the iron wire that needs to be bound. When wrapping the insulation cotton, tear a small part of the cotton to allow it to wrap around the valve handle and better cover the valve body. After wrapping the insulation cotton, fix it with iron wire. 
If during use you encounter a situation where the valve freezes and fails to operate normally, do not attempt to knock the valve with a wrench or any heavy object. The correct approach is to close the valve, then use steam or hot water to thaw it before reopening the valve. 
If a valve is not used for a long time, the medium inside the pipeline should be completely removed to prevent the pipeline and the valve from freezing. Ensuring safe production is the obligation and responsibility of every enterprise. Regarding valve anti-freezing, it can be done in various ways. We must not allow a momentary carelessness or oversight to lead to an irreparable situation. 
Anti-freezing measures also vary by region. There are significant differences between the north and the south. Considering the characteristics of winter and based on the actual situation of the project, measures for anti-freezing of boilers, pressure vessels, pressure pipelines and their associated valves, as well as safety relief devices, should be formulated, and these measures should be implemented effectively. 
For the parts prone to cracking due to freezing, increase the frequency of daily inspections. Closely monitor sudden drastic temperature drops, take advance measures for insulation and response, and use insulation materials to enhance the insulation of the equipment. 
The water inside the equipment must be drained completely after it is shut down or undergoes maintenance to prevent freezing and cracking. For pressure vessels with media containing water, regular water drainage is necessary, and the drainage valves should be insulated. For steam pipelines, check the drainage situation and ensure that the drainage valves and pipelines are insulated. The drain pipes of the chemical system need to be insulated. Safety valves on boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure pipelines should be insulated to prevent freezing and avoid malfunction. During water pressure tests, pay attention to warmth preservation, especially for fine pipes to prevent freezing. When the ambient temperature is low, install liquid level gauges on pressure vessels prone to freezing or add steam insulation pipes to pressure pipelines to ensure the smoothness of the steam.
